4 REASONS WHY FREELANCE WRITERS ARE BETTER FOR BUSINESS
I’ve always found it quite ironic when my expertise seems to perfectly match a job description but I hear these responses from employers –
“We prefer a full-time writer.”
“We want someone in-house, it’s easier to manage our content.”
“We can’t manage freelance writers.”
I’ve produced my best work while freelancing for the past 7+ years. Here’s why –
1. Access To Creative Headspace
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that professional writers need quiet to write well.
A noisy sales and marketing team (sorry) working just next door to us, is a living nightmare for most good writers. If writers are finishing the writing away from the office (been there, done that)it leaves little room for work-life balance.
A survey conducted by Nasscom and Indeed found 66% higher employee satisfaction while working from home. For writers, it’s not because we want to work in our PJs!
But because we need creative headspace that just can’t be replicated in the chatter of a traditional office.
2. Diversity Improves Quality
If you’re hiring a full-time writer because you feel that remaining committed only to your brand will regulate the consistency of quality – you’re in for a shocker.
Scientists have found that monotonous work can negatively impact mental health, cause major stress, and lead to burnout.
Variety is the spice of both life and writing. I find that by working on a diverse range of projects across industries, I remain excited about the work I do for each of my clients.
3. Stakes For Commitment Are Higher
If you had the unfortunate experience of working with an unreliable freelancer; my deep condolences for your trauma. But they don't speak for the larger community.
Most freelancers don’t take their clients for granted at any point; our income stability depends on the value we bring to your business month-on-month. Not just an annual review. If you don’t believe it, check out my raving recommendations on LinkedIn.
4. Don’t Quit Easy
Unless you’re horrendous for our mental health; freelance writers don’t quit easily. We seek clients with whom we can build long-term relationships – we can spend less time looking for gigs and more time doing the work we love.
Besides a recent report by Aon found that attrition rates in India amongst full-time employees have remained elevated to 20%, last year – the highest over a decade, and are expected to remain in double-digits through 2023 as well. A majority of the attrition rate comes from voluntary resignation.
Take on a freelance writer and you might just save on the enormous costs incurred for re-hiring.
